I was born into a Christian home and discipled by my parents from an early age. I don't remember the specific moment, nor how old I was when I first decided to give my life to Christ, but I do know that I did so very early on. Typically, when I make decisions, I realize over time that I could have made a better decision. In this case however, over time I’ve come to realize more and more that this was the best and most important decision of my life.
As I’ve grown older I’ve begun to understand at a deeper level how my sins demand to be paid for and that nothing I could ever do would be sufficient to earn forgiveness, and that it is only by the finished work of Christ on the cross that I can now stand before Him blameless.
The decision to follow Christ is a one-time decision to surrender ourselves to Him but it is also an ongoing decision that we have to make every day. In Luke 9:23 Jesus says, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me.” I now strive to daily make that decision. I still stumble and fall and regularly make poor decisions but I share Paul’s confidence (Philippians 1:6) that Christ will continue the work that He has started in me until His return.
